When bearings have to be created for linear movements, linear technology is a sensible solution. Here, the roller bearing principle for rotating movements is applied to the desired linear movements. Balls, cylindrical rollers or needles are used as rolling elements.
Compared with the possibility of using slide bearings, roller bearings have significant advantages such as lower friction, less loss of energy and reduced bearing clearance. In addition, linear systems are easy to maintain and lubricate and do not require a run-in period. Thanks to international standardisation, they can be replaced easily. However, they are more sensitive to impact and louder than slide bearings.
