Cylindrical roller bearing
Cylindrical roller bearings also belong to the large family of rolling bearings. As rolling elements, they have cylindrical rollers that have a larger contact surface (line contact) compared to the point contact of the balls. As a result, they can support significantly higher radial loads with high rigidity.
Suitability for absorbing axial forces determines the design of cylindrical roller bearings
The cylindrical roller bearings are even capable of absorbing axial forces, but this requires special ribs that are attached to the side. The arrangement of these ribs determines the design - the following variants exist:
- The basic version N
- NU is suitable as a non-locating bearing
- NUP is used as a fixed bearing
- NJ absorbs axial loads in one direction only
A key characteristic of modern cylindrical roller bearings is their logarithmic raceway profile, which has a slight curvature. This has the advantage that excessive edge pressure at the ends of the cylindrical rollers is avoided. These are normally caused by misalignment or shaft deflection. Another advantage of this design is the ability to create a load-bearing lubricating film between the raceways and the rolling element, which is also hydrodynamic. This significantly reduces friction while maintaining a high load-bearing capacity.
Modern cylindrical roller bearings (suffix E) are also characterized by larger rollers compared to conventional designs.Single-row cylindrical roller bearings also offer the option of mounting the outer ring and inner ring separately.
Above a certain size, the use of a ball roller bearing is no longer sufficient. Cylindrical roller bearings are then used in gearboxes and electric motors with large shaft diameters. These bearings are always unsealed and are noisier than deep groove ball bearings due to their kinematics. The bearing can only be lubricated via the end face. SKF, for example, is an established manufacturer of these bearings.
NBR ensures an optimum selection of cylindrical roller bearings in terms of price, performance and availability - for over 20 years.
